Facility Visit
28 March 2025 | 13:30-17:00
This function requires pre-registration (additional fee of €79)
Novonesis, Hvidovre
Novonesis is a global company leading the era of biosolutions. The facility in Hvidovre spans 7,000 m² of -55°C storage space, likely the largest of its kind in Europe. They operate 24/7, year-round, handling the production, storage, and shipment of frozen and freeze-dried microorganisms, primarily for the food industry—such as starter cultures for yogurt. The microorganisms are frozen using liquid nitrogen, reaching temperatures as low as -180°C. During the visit, the group will be guided through the production and packaging process where products and operations can be seen.
We will also observe their use of robotics, all within strict hygiene protocols. Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are employed to transport products from ambient temperatures into the -55°C freezer. Additionally, automated airlocks help transfer packaged goods into the -55°C storage. The facility also includes a -23°C storage area for freeze-dried products. Their truck trailer containers are capable of cooling down to -70°C.
We will see their highly efficient, state-of-the-art cooling systems, a feature they take great pride in. In the past few decades, they’ve managed to reduce relative energy consumption by 90%. Throughout the facility, there are comprehensive safety, security, and backup systems, all of which will be explained during our tour.
Network in the Expo
