Prime Minister Justin Trudeau undertook a major shuffle of his cabinet on Wednesday, July 26, with seven ministers being dropped from his 38 person cabinet, and seven new ministers entering cabinet for the first time. Four key portfolios for GCCA had no change in minister, including:

·  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland (Toronto, Ontario),

·  Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade, and Economic Development Mary Ng (Markham, Ontario),

·  Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry François-Philippe Champagne (Shawinigan, Quebec), and

·  Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault (Montreal, Quebec).

However, the four ministers with some of the greatest impact on files important to GCCA did change, including:

·  Minister of Transport Pablo Rodriguez (Montreal, Quebec).

·  Minister of Health (with responsibility for the CFIA) Mark Holland (Ajax, Ontario).

·  Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay (Prince Edward Island).

·  Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser (Nova Scotia)

Minister MacAulay steps very easily into the role, having served in the position from 2015 to 2019. As the new ministers complete their staffing changes leading up to the return of the House of Commons in late September, GCCA will be engaging with them to ensure they are up to date on priorities important to members.
